l am a Black transgender man, athlete, activist and refugee from Uganda. l came to Edmonton, Canada for the ILGA (International Lesbian Gay Association) swimming competition that took place in August 2016. Following the traumatizing events in 2016 after Uganda police raided the gay pride and l was arrested, beaten and undressed by police to check if I was a man or a woman. In Uganda, it is illegal to be gay and worse for transfolks the penalty is life imprisonments or death sentence. I was not able to go back home. I founded RARICAnow society, I have written a play about my story and l have also produced a documentary (A Long Road To Peace) where we interviewed half a dozen of transgender and q queer refugees who shared their stories and lived experiences from countries where it illegal
