Sunny Chen

I wrote and directed #OpenEthnicityTV pilot without formal training, funded by STORYHIVE with $20K CAD (erroneously reported as $80K on this website). I am a Chinese Canadian artist, performer, and writer, with Han & Naxi ancestry. My family settled on unceded Coast Salish lands when I was 6 years old; I was raised in Burnaby and Langley, BC. My interdisciplinary art conveys the toxicity of heteropatriarchal capitalism, and healing from intergenerational trauma & oppression. I aim to provide other femmes, SA/DV survivors, (QT)BIPOC &/or low-income artists opportunities to create, collaborate, learn, lead & get paid. I studied Psychology and English literature (BA), and implement wellness & sustainability into my work.
